Installing AMD Catalyst Drivers working in Ubuntu

To make sure we are working with a clean slate. Please issue the below commands:

apt-get remove fglrx-atieventsd fglrx-control fglrx-driver fglrx-modules-dkms glx-alternative-fglrx glx-alternative-fglrx libfglrx-amdxba1:i386

Now let’s begin.

$ sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic

or

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-linux-x86.x86_64.zip

Extract:

sudo chmod +x amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-linux-x86.x86_64.run

On the desktop edition of Ubuntu apt will resolve any dependencies that you may be missing and install the appropriate kernel header for your system.

If you are running a VM on Openstack then install:

$ sudo apt-get install linux-headers-virtual

If you receive any errors pointing to the absence of the /build/include/linux then input this command.

$ sudo ln -s /usr/src/include/linux /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/build/include/linux
$ apt-get update

Optional method of searching for the correct kernel version.

$ apt-cache search linux-headers-$(uname -r)
